GARAGE DOOR OPENERS

SPECIALTY HARDWARE

Ordinary garage door controls are a home security risk.

Professional criminals are always looking for an easier way to break into homes and they recently found one – using the code of your own automatic garage door opener as a pass key.

They use an electronic device called a "code grabber" that intercepts the transmission from your garage door remote control, copies the code on a computer chip, and retransmits it to open your garage. Another method called "code scanning" is even easier. With the same model transmitter and some easy-to-obtain electronics, a burglar can scan for the code of any garage door control and trigger the opener in a matter of minutes.

Picture this. You're leaving home one morning. A thief with a code grabber is parked several hundred feet down the block. You don't notice him, but he sees you. When you use your remote to close the garage, he captures the radio frequency code. Now he's in business.

When you're gone, he opens your garage, pulls inside, then closes the door again, all by using your copied code. From the garage, getting into the house is a piece of cake. Your best hope is that the intruder cleans you out and leaves, instead of waiting for you or one of your family members to return. You don't even want to think about that possibility.

We have garage controls that prevent "code grabbing" - give us a call for a free estimate to upgrade your system.
